The Josh Place

A place of belonging, dignity, and hope for individuals living with mental illness — founded in memory of a son who was deeply loved.

A Legacy of Love & Purpose

The Josh Place was founded by Shari Strong in memory of her beloved son, Josh, who lived with paranoid schizophrenia for 13 years. Josh passed away in 2022, going home to be with the Lord — and leaving behind a mother whose grief became a mission.

The goal of The Josh Place is to build 7 homes in Omaha, Nebraska for individuals living with mental illnesses who do not require full-time care. These homes will provide a safe, dignified, and supportive living environment — a true place where people belong.

The number 7 is deeply intentional — rooted in the 7 years Shari spent watching Josh navigate a system that too often left him without the right level of support. And it reflects the 7 decision mindsets at the heart of Decision DynamiX™ — because every person, no matter their mental health journey, deserves to have their dignity and autonomy honored.

The Vision

7

Homes to Build in Omaha, NE

Each home will provide safe, supportive, community-based living for individuals with mental illness who are independent but need a place that truly supports their wellbeing.

"A place where every person is seen, valued, and given the chance to flourish."

In Memory of Josh

"Josh was one of the most courageous people I have ever known. He lived with paranoid schizophrenia for 13 years — and he did so with a spirit that inspired everyone around him. When he went home to be with the Lord in 2022, I knew his story couldn't end there. The Josh Place is my promise to him — and to every family that has walked this road."

— Shari Strong, Founder

Paranoid schizophrenia is one of the most challenging and misunderstood mental illnesses. Millions of Americans live with it — and millions of families navigate alongside them, often without adequate resources, community support, or safe housing options that respect the individual's capacity for independent living.

The Josh Place is built on the belief that individuals living with mental illness deserve more than just clinical care — they deserve community, dignity, and a home.

Mental Health Is Not a Moral Failure

The Josh Place exists to challenge stigma, expand support systems, and build real, tangible solutions for individuals and families navigating mental illness in our communities.
